PROCESS AFTER REFERRAL

The typical process after referral at Harbour Cancer & Wellness.


STEP 1
FIRST SPECIALIST APPOINTMENT (FSA)

Your patient will meet with their consulting doctor to discuss their results and treatment options. Here are some common questions patients often ask us.

STEP 2
THEIR TREATMENT
PLAN

Typically, your patient will either be recommended an oral course of medication, or a course of intravenous treatment which which may require time in the day stay unit.

STEP 3
PRE-TREATMENT 
ASSESSMENT

Your patient will meet their consulting doctor again to confirm the treatment plan, answer any questions they may have and complete paperwork.

STEP 4
FOLLOW-UP
APPOINTMENTS

Your patient’s consulting doctor will see them on a regular basis throughout their treatment and will keep you informed.

Can patients self-refer to Harbour Cancer?

Patients can submit a self-referral enquiry, but an appointment requires a doctor's referral.

How quickly will my patient be seen?

We aim to see all new patients within seven working days.

What insurance providers does Harbour work with?

We are an Affiliated Provider to Southern Cross Health Insurance for selected services. We also have relationships for direct billing with Accuro, AIA, NIB, Partners Life, Unimed, ACC and other insurers.

Can I refer a patient for a clinical trial?

Yes. Clinicians can refer patients to clinical trials by sending a referral with relevant clinical information. Learn more about clinical trials.

What tumour types do you treat?

Our Medical Oncologists treat multiple cancer types, including breast, brain, lung, skin (melanoma), male genitourinary system (prostate, bladder and kidney), female reproductive system (ovary, uterus and cervix), gastrointestinal tract (oesophagus, stomach and bowel) and more. Our Haematologists focus on disorders of the blood, including myeloma, lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, myeloproliferative and myelodysplatic disorders.

Will I be kept informed about my patient's treatment?

Yes, we value an integrated, multidisciplinary approach with ongoing connection and communication with the referring clinician.

Do you provide shared care with the public system?
