JENNY EATON

Jenny is a co-founder of Clinical Genetics Auckland and a senior genetic counsellor at Auckland City Hospital.

Jenny has always loved genetics and finds the profession is a rewarding blend of working in science and communicating with individuals and families. She works in all areas of genetic counselling and has a particular interest in breast cancer, cardiac genetics, and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and screening.

Offering information and support to patients and families affected by genetic conditions, Jenny makes arrangements for diagnostic, predictive and prenatal genetic testing, and ensures appropriate referrals are made for treatment, surgery, screening and follow-up.

Jenny graduated from Massey University in Palmerston North with a Bachelor of Science in 1999, and Griffith University in Brisbane with a Master of Science in genetic counselling in 2000. Jenny went on to work as an embryologist for Fertility Associates in Hamilton and Auckland, before beginning her career as a genetic counsellor at Genetic Health Service NZ.

Since becoming a member of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia in 2007, Jenny has held roles as secretary, treasurer and president of the organisation’s New Zealand branch. She is currently a member of the National Genetics Service Group and the Australian Society of Genetic Counsellors.
